WebbIn the present study, we aimed to detect the separate rests of thyroidal tissue in the thyrothymic region. Methods The thyrothymic region was explored for identification, dissection, and excision of separate thyroidal remnants in 134 patients who underwent primary thyroid surgery. WebbIn a recent study, Sackett et al studied 100 patients for thyrothymic rests, examining 180 sides of the neck in 90 individuals. Eighty-three separate sides (46%) revealed histologic thyroid rests. In those patients with recognized rests, 57% were bilateral, 30% right sided, and only 13% left sided.
